During the week of Feb. 1-7, Hawaii Island police arrested 21 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 10; South Hilo, five; South Kohala, three; North Hilo, two; and Puna, one.
So far this year, there have been 112 DUI arrests compared to 100 during the same period last year, an increase of 12 percent.
There have been 130 major accidents so far this year compared to 136 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.4 percent.
So far this year, there has been one official traffic fatality, the same total as this time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
